Meet Matt Loughlin, Visitor Experience Manager, West

My name is Matt Loughlin and I’m the Visitor Experience Manager covering West Cornwall and have worked for South West Lakes Trust on and off since 2000.

I started sailing when I was about 4 and loved being on the water. When I was a bit older I got into windsurfing and various other watersports. When I started secondary school I knew I wanted to work in the watersports industry and started working towards instructor qualifications. The rest is history.

My job involves everything from making sure the centre runs smoothly in terms of safety, staffing and finances to cleaning toilets and a multitude of other things in between.

It’s a pretty varied job which is what I enjoy about it. For me it’s all about the great team I have working with me on site and making sure we offer people the best experience we can and they go away happy.
