Bring your students and scouts to Wimbleball Lake for an unforgettable outdoor learning experience on Exmoor National Park, Somerset. With brilliant views and a wide range of activities Wimbleball offers the perfect environment to inspire young minds, build confidence and foster teamwork.

Children and teachers alike can enjoy a range of activities from high ropes to kayaking, sailing to canoeing along with 10 other activities. The 9 miles of footpaths around the lake provide opportunities for nature walks and outdoor learning sessions, making the most of this unique environment.

We tailor programmes to suit your school’s goals, blending adventure with personal development and outdoor education seamlessly. With our group camping field overlooking the water, we can easily host residential visits so you can try every activity Wimbleball offers during your stay and immerse students in a safe outdoor environment. Take advantage of our telescopes at the Dark Sky Discovery Hub to explore the wonders of the night sky.

When to visit

For groups of 12 or less participants we can accommodate from March – end of October 2026.

For groups of 48 or less we can accommodate from June – end of August 2026.

Residential visits are available between May and end of September 2026.

Regular visits

If you are local to Wimbleball and would like to visit regularly with your scout or school group, please let us know. We can fit into your busy schedule and create a weekly or monthly programme of activities to keep young people engaged with the outdoors and focus on building key life skills such as team building, leadership, problem solving and stress relief; particularly beneficial for those coping with exams and personal circumstances.

Length of activities

We teach either half day (2.30hrs) or full day (5hrs) of activities. This is time on session and does not include lunch breaks.

Prices

Prices per person largely depend on the group size and type of activities.  All prices for schools and scout groups are subsidised and VAT exempt.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum age?

The type of activities depends on the age group; we can teach from ages 7 and up. 

What is the maximum group size?

We can accommodate most groups and can make a schedule to fit you.

Can teachers and leaders take part?

Of course, however you will be included in ratios so we may give you two quotes for if you were or were not to take part.

Is there somewhere undercover in case it rains at lunch?

We have a partially indoor area available for lunches. There is also a café on site who can provide packed lunches for your group.

Do you have tents we can hire?

Yes, we have 8 man tents available to hire or you can bring your own.

Our local rowing club also have a large marquee available to hire so the whole group can take cover in the evening together.

Are the activities weather dependent?

We aim to be as reliable as possible. Our motto is, you’re going to get wet anyway! We will only postpone a booking if it is unsafe to go on the water in the prevailing conditions. In this event we usually have a back-programme just in case the weather isn’t on our side.

When is the best time to book/enquire for our next trip?

We accept enquiries all year round and take bookings for up to 2 years in advance.

From September – March our team are usually more available to give you their full attention. After this period you may find there are short delays as we are normally teaching the groups!

How do I book?

Drop us a quick email with your preferred dates and rough group size and we will check availability and provide a quote. Once you’re happy, we require a 30% deposit invoice to confirm the date and number of participants. 8 weeks prior to the booking start date we require the final group size and invoice the 70% remainder.

At the 8 week mark you would have received all our necessary risk assessments insurance documents and AALA licence along with your kit list, programme and arrival instructions.
