Kick off the new year by walking, jogging, running or cycling around the stunning lakes of the south west.

Get fit by joining parkrun at Tamar Lakes!

This 5km run around Upper Tamar Lake takes place every Saturday at 9am.

Currently they are supporting the NHS Couch to 5k programme. With encouragement, support and a scenic route, this is a great way for beginners or lapsed runners to achieve a 5km target and get fit.

It’s free to join, but you do need to register before your first run. Join in and enjoy the exercise, whatever your pace or experience.

Starting on the bridge spanning the lake, the course covers a mixture of tarmac paths, cinder and grass.

The runners like to have a post run coffee at the café too!


Why not take a walk or a stroll at Roadford Lake? For a great 30 minute brisk walk, start from Roadford Lake café and follow the paths to the beautiful sundial and back.

Alternatively, bring your bike and cycle through the forest!


Stretch your legs along miles of walking and cycling trails around Wimbleball Lake. Take a walk to the dam and back for a 3 mile route (1.3m/2.1km each way), or challenge yourself with a 3 hour 9 mile hike around the perimeter of the lake.


Walk, run or cycle around the 5km round lake circuit at Siblyback Lake. The circuit is adjacent to the lake, providing a lovely backdrop, and also passes through woodlands and the dam. The path is accessible for pushchairs too, and you can even bring your dog along!


Pay a visit to Fernworthy Reservoir and raise your heart rate with the round lake walk, while taking in some fascinating cultural heritage, such as ancient stone cairns and hut circles. Through the Moor than Meets the Eye project, the round-reservoir footpath, bridge and boardwalk have recently been improved, in partnership with Dartmoor National Park Authority; thus, the reservoir and its surrounding areas are accessible for all abilities. Alternatively, take other marked trails into the neighbouring forest.
