Reporting an Incident:

South West Lakes Trust manages a portfolio of nearly 50 lakes and other natural resources so it is not always possible for our wardens to be on the scene when issues occur. The very remote and rural nature of our estate, the thing that makes them so special, also means that modern mobile communications don’t always cover the areas we would like them to. This makes getting an immediate response to ongoing incidents very challenging.

Please use this form to report any incidents of poaching, illegal fishing or any other form of antisocial behaviour to the management team so that we are able to take appropriate action.

There currently are high levels of blue-green algae at Argal. Please wash hands and equipment and stay away from surface blooms when deciding where to fish.

Argal Reservoir, Penryn, Cornwall TR11 5PE

Located on the outskirts of Penryn in Cornwall, Argal Reservoir has a National reputation for being one of the leading fisheries in the South West with many of the carp having been re-located from the prolific College Reservoir many years ago.

Argal is home to carp to 40lbs, pike to 25lbs, bream to 15lb, perch to 3lb and quality roach and rudd. Carp have gone to nearly 43lbs in the past. The most sought after carp is ‘The Secret’ which is usually caught around 40lbs in weight. There is a large head of big bream with an average size well over 5lbs. Pleasure anglers’ nets of 75-150lb in a day are not uncommon.

The pike fishing is winter only from 1 October to 29 February.

Re-stocking - The water has been re-stocked in recent years with carp to over 30lbs. The lake also has a café, public lavatories including provision for disabled visitors, a children's play area and picnic tables. There is a wheelchair accessible fishing platform located below the car park

Argal Access

Please can all anglers ensure that they do not use the lane access at the top end of Argal between 8.30pm and 8.30am. It is a permissive path and the owners will be locking the gate overnight. Please respect the owner's privacy and do not park directly outside the property or in front of the gate. If these rules are not adhered to then access will be permanently closed.
