Trout FishingWe extend a warm welcome to all trout anglers. The range of fishing we offer ensures excellent sport for all abilities. Our still water fisheries are among the best in the west and vary in size from around 50 to over 900 acres! Our fisheries are picturesque and atmospheric lakes, including countless secluded bays, weedy shores and tree line margins to explore. We boast rainbows, browns and a large number of blues of the highest quality. Traditional fly fishing is the rule at our stocked fisheries, although other methods can be used at our free wilderness trout waters. Young People and Newcomers We are working hard to encourage young people and newcomers to take up the sport. Under 18 fish for free with a paying adult and part of their bag limit. Throughout the season, we host open days and events where we offer free fly fishing tuition for all. Boat Fishing Boats are available at most of our waters which provide an alternative to bank angling. These must be pre-booked, either by calling 01566 771930 (8.30am - 5.00pm 7 days a week) or online by scrolling to the bottom of your chosen lake page. You will need to sign a disclaimer before you can take a boat out. Once a year you will need to complete a boat induction – please watch the induction video here. Access for All Most of the waters benefit from facilities designed for disabled or wheelchair anglers, either by platforms or Wheelyboats. These boats must be booked at least 48 hours in advance. Clubs A number of the fisheries have associated local clubs. These are a great way to meet fellow anglers, as well as participating in competitions and social events. We run several competitions during the season - more details of each of these are available on our competitions page. Environment Agency Rod Licence Anglers on all our waters must have a valid Environment Agency rod licence which are available from post offices or via the Environment Agency. The only exception may be when attending a bona fide course or a coaching session with a qualified coach – please check beforehand. South West Lakes Trust South West Lakes Trust is the managing charity of SW Lakes Trust Fishing. The charity is a member of The Angling Trust. In 2014, the South West Lakes Trust fisheries hosted the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships; Scotland took gold and England won silver. Reporting an Incident: South West Lakes Trust manages a portfolio of nearly 50 lakes and other natural resources so it is not always possible for our wardens to be on the scene when issues occur. The very remote and rural nature of our estate, the thing that makes them so special, also means that modern mobile communications don’t always cover the areas we would like them to. This makes getting an immediate response to ongoing incidents very challenging. Please use this form to report any incidents of poaching, illegal fishing or any other form of antisocial behaviour to the management team so that we are able to take appropriate action. Catch & Release limit is 10 fish per day – we would kindly asked that all angler purchase a further ticket if they would like to continue fishing. Brown Limit – Bag Limit is 4 fish. Catch & Release is unlimited ( if you’re lucky enough to catch good numbers of our Brownies then we feel it’s well deserved!) Highlights from last week: First and foremost, I would like to say a big thanks to all the anglers, bailiffs, volunteers and clubs for the warm welcomes I have received - it’s been great and l have thoroughly enjoyed spending time with you and look forward to doing more of the same! Secondly, I would like to say a huge thanks for the quality and sheer numbers of catch returns that have been submitted online – This really helps in our charitable goals and objectives while continuing to improve our angler experience at all of our fisheries. Wow, what a week to be out on the water: Some great sessions across the venues this week- warmer weather and increasing surface action with lots of hatches on display. Nice to hear of anglers enjoying the surroundings and seeing the first swallows of the season. Some beautiful fish, including a 4.25lb rainbow at Kennick Morning and Evening sessions proving very successful again and also a fantastic time to see the emerging wildlife BOATS We currently have four boats available at Kennick, three at Roadford and one at Stithians. Photo 2: From Malcolm U Photo 3: From: Mike H Kennick Weekly Overview: A great deal of lovely sessions this week for many, including Roy R - 9 Rainbows up to 3.25lb, Alan R, J Somers, R Harvey, Nigel R all busy sessions with Rainbows up to 2.25lb, Adrian R and Malcolm U with buttery brownies to 1lb, Geoff V - 3 lovely Rainbow to 3.5lbs all returned. Washing lines hung with Buzzers and boobies also producing good results, faithful blue flash damsels and fritzs, and lovely to see some fish coming to some dries including Appetisers. Great activity seen and action had close to the many drop offs and submerged stone ledges. Rod Average of 2.9 per angler. Some particularly busy sessions and too many to mention all of them here, but a few names include Michael S - 7 Rainbows, Adam P - 4 fish to 2.25lbs, John S - 4 Fish upto 2lbs, Paul E- quick 1-2hrs session and 2.5lb Rainbow, Gary P - 7 Fish upto 2.25lb, Simon W with another 7 Rainbows upto 2lbs and Andy D with a lovely Blue Trout. C Hurford had 2 Blues coming to Montanas, and another busy few sessions from Andy and Alan L with beautiful photos and video with 8+ Rainbow and an absolute superbly marked Brownie of around 2lb. Lots of fish showing, quite preoccupied with naturals, lots of rising to take buzzers, long leaders proving successful. Great session for Geoff V with several fish to 1.5lb, Nigel E again similar, Graeme T had a couple of busy sessions with 10+ Rainbows and a cracking 1lb brownie to a mixture of steady roly poly, steady retrieves with lots of great action and making the most of a windy day and choppy water. It was lovely to hear that some anglers enjoyed seeing their first swallows of the season and some lovely sunny days on the bankside. It took a mini goldhead montana #12 off Farmhouse Bank and put up a terrific fight.” Fernworthy Weekly Overview: Some nice cold but bright days, the water offering lots of rises through the sessions, quite far out and along the margins, lots of refusals on the dries. Some great sessions had including Matt B 3 fish up to 3lbs, 55cm on a goldhead Montana at Farmhouse bank that put up a cracking fight, Dave O from Bath had some lovely fish, Gary s 4 Browns up to 1lb, Louise H a beautiful fish at 10 inches on a s12 Bibio, lots of 7-10” making some great sport!
