Reminders & Requests

• Please send me any photos of your catches, flies, lakes or any nature or wildlife pictures that we could utilise for press articles or social media posting.
•  Please complete Catch Returns online, this will enable us to gain a clearer picture of our lakes and stock levels which of course in turn will help us to continue to improve our Anglers experience.
• Any Roadford Brown Trout with adipose removed as part of the project study please record and send any photo/details of these Brown Trout caught.

 

Bag, Catch & Release limits:

• Rainbow Trout- Bag Limit is 5 fish. Catch & Release limit is 10 fish per day – we would kindly ask that all angler purchase a further ticket if they would like to continue fishing.
• Brown Limit– Bag Limit is 4 fish. Catch & Release is unlimited ( if you’re lucky enough to catch good numbers of our Brownies then we feel it’s well deserved!) 

 

BOATS

We currently have four boats available at Kennick, three at Roadford and one at Stithians. The two boats for Siblyback will be available soon.

Kennick  

Rod Average: 3.79

Many reports this week noted fish being found down deep, although some hatches were spotted with fish rising confidently to these. There were lots of impressive catch returns, not just in numbers but in quality of information. Some highlights this week were: Andy L with an “outstanding session from the boat” where he had “superb fighting fish” and described it as “pound for pound the best fighting rainbows I’ve fished for to date” and had 8 fish to over 3Lbs. Mark M had 6 rainbows to 2.5Lbs, Mike W- “another red letter evening” with 8 fish in one session and 7 on another time. Mark G had 9 rainbows on a floating line, Malcolm U – 10 rainbows to 2Lbs 6oz, Tom H had 3 great fish averaging 2Lbs each, Nigel- 16 rainbows with “very aggressive takes by top-quality fish”, Alan R also reported very strong fighting fish, and Phil M-R had 5 trout including a fantastic 5Lb fish which “came in and went out like a king”.

Siblyback

Rod Average: 3.77

Some beautiful weather days noted this week, with bright conditions and gin-clear water. More swallows were spotted and buzzer hatches reported. Lots of activity for anglers and plenty of fish seen feeding. George H described his session as a “signature evening” with 8 rainbows to 2lbs 6oz on his 4 wt rod. Mick D had 4 rainbows to 1Lb 12oz, Phil M-R had a brilliant trip, and managed to get 6 fish to 3Lbs, Andy D had 6 rainbows and 2 blues, Simon S had 6 rainbows on black buzzers and Paul E had 2 lovely rainbow in 90 minutes. Nigel M had a lovely rainbow on a Montana.

An excellent week with plenty of healthy competitions. The first report is from the previous week from Mick Dodkins (SFFA Siblyback Flyfishers) - their first monthly competition. Thanks Mick for the great report. In addition Siblyback held the Snowbee Team of Four competition on Sunday.

The anglers were faced with difficult conditions, bright sunshine and little wind combined with very cold overnight temperatures looked like making for hard fishing. So it was to be, at least initially. The members split up to try their favoured spots with some starting along 2 meadows and others the North Shore.

A couple of early fish slipped to hook on the North shore and another non member also fishing there lost a fish, but then the takes dried up completely. After a couple of hours the wind began to pick up from a south easterly direction and cloud cover appeared but this seemed to have little impact on the mood of the fish. The water was also gin clear which probably made the fish a little wary.

By half past two no fish had been caught by the members and only an hour and a half remained when all happened to meet up at Stocky Bay. Whilst this area had not produced the goods earlier, it suddenly switched on.

Ron Wilday took the lead with a couple of fish and looked like a sure winner but was pipped at the post with a last-minute fish by Mick Dodkins 4-3. John Rumbold should have been up there but he forgot to bring some decent tippet material! Goldhead nymphs fished deep proved successful on the day.

A 4lb Rainbow was also caught by an angler the same day

Burrator

Rod Average: 6.8

A real mixture of techniques and set-ups with lots of reactive fishing to suit the changes in the behaviour of the fish and the weather. Late Morning and early evening were especially successful. Some angler highlights of the week: Kevin P had 5 trout, 4 rainbow and a blue, Paul A had nice session with a rainbow and a brown on his own home-tied nymph. Guy W had 5 rainbows to 2.5Lbs, Kevin S had 10 fish in difficult and windy conditions- a mixture of browns and rainbows to 1.5Lbs. Graham B had 2 lovely fish, a brownie and a rainbow on his own home-tied flies. Richard W had 10 fish- 8 rainbows and 2 blues, David L had 6 fish including 1 blue and Matt N had 2 rainbow to 1lb 8oz.

Stithians

Rod Average: 2.17

A lot of activity and surface feeding noted this week, amongst changeable weather. Warren G had a couple of great sessions with 7 rainbows and then a further 2 in a short Morning session, John H had 8 rainbow to 3lbs, Simon P- 6 rainbow to 2.5Lbs in a one hour window, Phillip L- 3 nice fish on a damsel.

Fernworthy

Rod Average: 1.6

Floating lines did the trick at Fernworthy for the majority this week, and although hatches were reported as more sparse, midges were spotted on several occasions. Some great moments for Anglers- Mike G had 2 nice browns on Hawthorns and Bibios, Nick H had 3 nice fish, Roy G had a brownie on a Hawthorne, Alan J had 5 browns on Bibio, William W-  2 trout and Jeremy Robinson had another 2.

Colliford

Rod Average: 4.6

Some really great catch returns in this week in terms of details. Was good to hear of some very enjoyable fishing, with Stephen B coming away after having 2 lovely browns in a “great evening” session. Peter L had 5 “lively trout” and also noted that he spotted Curlews and also his first sight of Hawthorne flies. Other highlights included: Paul M with 8 browns, Susan M having a lovely brownie on a peacock, Michael S with 7 fish to 11 inches, George H with 4 fish to 1Lb 3oz, Ian S with a 6 brownies, Rodney W- 3 browns on a short morning trip and Simon W had 13 – brilliant!

We had a friendly Colliford get together event/competition last week which was kindly organised by Rodney Wevill (Fluff Chuckers). Well done to every who took part and it’s certainly one for the schedule next year! Read the full report here.

Roadford

Rod Average: 1.87

A tendency to find the fish deeper down this week, with some successful boat trips on flat, calm days but fish also coming to the surface, especially during late afternoon. Some highlights were:  Raymond T had a nice 12-inch brown, Darren S had 3 brownies up top 1.5Lbs and Gary S had a brilliant trip with 6 brownies to 1.25Lbs.
