Reminders & Requests

• Please send me any photosof your catches, lakes or any nature or wildlife pictures that we could utilise for press articles or social media posting. It would also be great to have some clear and close up photos of some of the flies used, and would be very keen to see flies tied at home as well, so if you have any photos to hand please send them to- [email protected]

 

• Please complete Catch Returns online, this will enable us to gain a clearer picture of our lakes and stock levels which of course in turn will help us to continue to improve our Anglers experience.

 

• Any Roadford Brown Troutwith adipose removed as part of the project study please record and send any photo/details of these Brown Trout caught.

 

Bag, Catch & Release limits:

• Rainbow Trout- Bag Limit is 5 fish. Catch & Release limit is 10 fish per day – we would kindly ask that all anglers purchase a further ticket if they would like to continue fishing.
• Brown Limit– Bag Limit is 4 fish. Catch & Release is unlimited (if you’re lucky enough to catch good numbers of our Brownies then we feel it’s well deserved!)

Please keep the catch reports coming in, we really do appreciate the depth of information they offer and it’s a great help to us. Thanks also for the great photos and videos we’ve received so far.

 

The rainbow trout fisheries have been producing some steady fishing this week as the season winds down to a close on 30^th November. With just over a week to go there’s still time to get a few sessions in so don’t forget to purchase your permit!

Kennick  

Rod Average: 1.82

A quiet week for Kennick, with some good catches at the start of the week before picking up again towards the weekend. Float tubers have seen the most success with Kevin Primmer from Dawlish Warren kicking off the week with 7 rainbows at approx. 2lb 12oz each and a combined weight of 14lb 3oz, before retruning later in the week for a bag of 6 weighing in at 13lb 12oz on a floating line with varied retrieves. Brian Sedgebeer from Islington landed 2 rainbows to 1.12lbs from the bank on a blue flash damsel on Monday, and then 9 to 3.3lbs on Thursday from a float tube with a sinking line on the bottom and slow retrieve.

Burrator

Rod Average: 1.00

The majority of catches this week were from depth, despite sporadic surface feeding activity, with orange blobs and fritz patterns producing some aggressive takes. Alan Clements from Plymouth landed 2 rainbows to 2lb 6oz with a blue flash damsel on intermediate line with figure of 8 retrieve, whilst Al Lawson from Plymouth caught 1 feisty rainbow at 1.5lb on an orange blob fished deep on Friday, after a great session on Monday where he landed 2 small browns and 2 rainbows to 1.5lb:

 ‘Great day on Burry today, though the fishing was difficult. Could have done with some more ripple at times as it was millpond still at times but nicely overcast. Very few fish rising and my fish came to a nomad on an intermediate line stripping. Got one small brown off Longstone, another small brown and a rainbow up at Bennett’s lawn, with the other rainbow taken tight to the trees on Discovery bank.’

Pete Laidlaw from Plymouth had 2 takes but failed to land:’ Fished mid-depth to deep, slow retrieve, floating line, sink tip. Only had two takes, both fish not landed. One aggressive take was on the Orange Fritz (never fished that fly before) so will use that fly again if all else fails. Good advice was given by two more knowledgeable anglers (Dennis and Al) about the reservoir and places to fish – thank you both.’

Stithians

Rod Average: 1.25

Varied levels of surface activity this week with anglers utilising a range of tactics to convert to catches. Simon Peters from Cusgarne caught 6 rainbows to 2lb 8oz on an intermediate line with mixed retrieve, and another 2 later in the week: 'Bites were seldom but took 2 fish just as the light was fading. Both fish in fantastic condition and hard fighting. Taken on sinking line fished across the bottom.' Phil Messenger-Rogers from St Austell caught a 1.74lb rainbow and another 'absolutely excellent fish' at 52cm on a hand-tied fly named after his dog; an 'Orange Katniss'.

Clive Pearce from Perranwell Station caught 2 rainbows and 1 brownie: ‘Intermediate line, 8ft leader with a biscuit booby on the point and an orange blob on one dropper at 4ft. 1st rainbow on the blob, slow figure of eight off the beach at pipe bay/dam bank. Then went over to the end of goonlaze bank later in the day through pure desperation. 2nd rainbow on 3rd cast closely followed by the brownie both on the biscuit booby and faster figure of eight’.

Thank you to Simon Peters for his photo, who remarked: ‘Although the fishing at Stithians is always tough, the fish from the last stocking have been in superb condition and bigger than the 1lb stockies we usually get. It's so

good to see regular catches of fish between 2 and 3 lb. I managed 6 out on Tuesday afternoon and another 2 yesterday fishing from 2pm - 4.30 so it's been a good week.’
