Trout Fishing

We extend a warm welcome to all trout anglers. The range of fishing we offer ensures excellent sport for all abilities. Our still water fisheries are among the best in the west and vary in size from around 50 to over 900 acres!

Our fisheries are picturesque and atmospheric lakes, including countless secluded bays, weedy shores and tree line margins to explore. We boast rainbows, browns and a large number of blues of the highest quality. Traditional fly fishing is the rule at our stocked fisheries, although other methods can be used at our free wilderness trout waters.

Young People and Newcomers

We are working hard to encourage young people and newcomers to take up the sport. Under 18 fish for free with a paying adult and part of their bag limit. Throughout the season, we host open days and events where we offer free fly fishing tuition for all.

Boat Fishing

Boats are available at most of our waters which provide an alternative to bank angling. These must be pre-booked, either by calling 01566 771930 (8.30am - 5.00pm 7 days a week) or online by scrolling to the bottom of your chosen lake page.

You will need to sign a disclaimer before you can take a boat out. Once a year you will need to complete a boat induction – please watch the induction video here

Access for All

Most of the waters benefit from facilities designed for disabled or wheelchair anglers, either by platforms or Wheelyboats. These boats must be booked at least 48 hours in advance.

Clubs

A number of the fisheries have associated local clubs. These are a great way to meet fellow anglers, as well as participating in competitions and social events. We run several competitions during the season - more details of each of these are available on our competitions page.

Environment Agency Rod Licence

Anglers on all our waters must have a valid Environment Agency rod licence which are available from post offices or via the Environment Agency. The only exception may be when attending a bona fide course or a coaching session with a qualified coach – please check beforehand.

South West Lakes Trust

South West Lakes Trust is the managing charity of SW Lakes Trust Fishing. The charity is a member of The Angling Trust. In 2014, the South West Lakes Trust fisheries hosted the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships; Scotland took gold and England won silver.

Reporting an Incident:

South West Lakes Trust manages a portfolio of nearly 50 lakes and other natural resources so it is not always possible for our wardens to be on the scene when issues occur. The very remote and rural nature of our estate, the thing that makes them so special, also means that modern mobile communications don’t always cover the areas we would like them to. This makes getting an immediate response to ongoing incidents very challenging.

Please use this form to report any incidents of poaching, illegal fishing or any other form of antisocial behaviour to the management team so that we are able to take appropriate action.

Kennick

Andy Birkett was top rod last week with 13 fish from a boat all between poplar bay and central water on the 8th of November.  Andys fishing report:

‘Another lovely day out in good autumn conditions. Started drifting outside East Wall over deeper water, pulling small white fry patterns 5 or 6 ft down - lots of follows and a few nice fish netted. Found another group of fish as I drifted into Poplar bay. Most fish were taking in the deepest part of the retrieve, so put the anchor in over 15' of water and fished more slowly at depth. This is where the bigger fish were, including a beautiful 2 3/4lb fish.

A few more fish later back at East wall, this time on a deep nymph.

All in all a very nice day given the time of year. Grateful to be out enjoying the freedom of fishing’.

Boats definitely having the best of it with best locations Poplar bay & central water with Alan Judd also doing well with 7 rainbows between boat bay & Forest bay.  Andy Birkett also had a further 12 fish from a boat on the 5th of November.  Best flies from the boat: Boobies & Orange Lures

The bank is fishing steady with the best location being Oak tree point.  The best flies from the bank are Montanas, Cats Whisker and Orange lures.

The biggest fish of 3lb was caught by Mr R Birt from the bank using a Blue Zulu on the 6th of November.

Siblyback

We stocked last week on Friday with nearly 400 more Rainbows to over 3lbs in size. I don’t have any information on successful flies or locations from last week but I would recommend trying Stocky Bay and Two meadows because we have stocked fish very recently.

Read our guide to fishing at Siblyback here.

Burrator

Burrator fish last week were caught mainly from Pig trough bay and the top end. The usual flies were the most productive with blue flash damsel leading the way.

There were Rainbows recorded to 2lbs in size. Kevin Sellar caught 1 Rainbow and 2 Blues and Ian Foxley had 2 Rainbows and a Blue.

Interestingly some Blues were caught last week which we stocked much earlier this season.

Stithians

Stithians produced some nice fishing last week with Rainbows and browns (and one blue!) being caught from Goonlaze and Mossops to a range of flies.

Graeme Clement recorded 3 Rainbows to just under 2lbs and 3 brownies last week using smokie nymph, Teeny Orange nasty and black beetles. Graeme caught fish at Mossops and Goonlaze

Warren Chegwidden had a rainbow and a blue using white cats whiskers from Mossops. Another successful angler was Richard Keast who caught two Rainbows from Goonlaze using a cormorant.

Giles Eustice and David Pascoa both recorded Rainbows using a Kennick killer olive and orange blob respectively.

We also had some returns from the last couple of weeks and John Henderson has caught 9 Rainbows to just over 2lbs using mainly orange flies.
