Trout fishing statement:

SW Lakes Fishing during lockdown – Covering the period 5^th November to 2^nd December

Fantastic news…….our Rainbow trout fisheries can remain open but you must read and adhere to the information below which highlights the restrictions now in place so we can continue to fish.

• You can only leave home to fish with members of your own household, your support bubble or with one other individual.
• Adhere to social distancing measures: Hand, Face and Space.
• Competition fishing or any other organised fishing event is prohibited by law during lockdown.
• You can travel to go fishing but long journeys should be avoided ‘wherever possible’. Go local wherever possible
• Boat fishing can continue and the boat fishing rules and regulations during covid-19 remain in place.

Please note:

Our fishing permit rooms are closed and day permits will only be available online from our website or from our office Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 4:30pm on 01566 771930. You can buy a permit as far in advance of your fishing as you would like.

Here’s what happened last week at the four Rainbow waters…….

Kennick

A good weeks fishing at Kennick again. Matt Baines and Richard Berrisford tied for top rod with 9 fish apiece last week. Both anglers fished by boat with Richard fishing boat bay and using buzzers a foot off the bottom. His best fish was 3lb 4oz which was also the biggest of the week.

Boat fishing is the way to go at the moment with the majority of fish being caught from central waters, boat bay and the lawns.

For bank anglers the best spot has been Calmpitts Bay. The best flies last week were Buzzers, Damsels, Montanas and boobies.

There were also 10 Brownies caught last week which were released to fight another day.

We will have 4 boats available until the end of November and two boats available up to and including the 17^th December.

Siblyback

Siblyback produced a superb 4lb Brownie last week to Stephen Pearce (picture below). Stephen also lost a Rainbow of a similar size! Terrific stuff.

Burrator

The best fish last week was a 2lb 4oz Rainbow caught by Kevin Sellar from a boat on the 23^rd of November by the waterfall. There were a few Rainbows caught but no brownies reported last week.

The best locations from the bank last week were Longstone Point and Sheepstor Dam and the best by boat was near the Waterfall. The most successful flies were a Damsel and a Woolly Bugger.

The 3 hour anytime ticket for just £13 is a great option if you only have a few hours of free time.

Stithians

Lots of action at Stithians last week as the fishing has really picked up this last couple of weeks.

– John Henderson had a terrific week catching plenty of fish! On one visit he caught 4 Rainbows using a sinking line with a small orange lure at the Dam using a Slow retrieve. He reports there were no fish showing but they were feeding deeper down. On another visit he had 4 Rainbows and a brown of 8oz . Caught and released on small orange lures fishing off the dam bank on a Sunny day with a NE wind in light ripple using a sink tip with slow retrieve.

– Graeme Clement had a good week with 6 rainbows over his three visits. Two sessions with 1 fish and one with 4. Successful flies for Graeme were his specials of ‘Wee Orange Nasty’ and ‘Red arsed black and blue blob’. Mossops was the best location for Graeme who’s best fish was 2lb 8oz.

– Nigel burley also had a good week with two visits producing 4 Rainbows and 2 browns caught from the North Bank, Sluice Bank and Pub Bay using a woolly bugger and boobies.

– Clive Pearce had some cracking sport at Stithians at the end of last week catching three Rainbows near the dam using a blue flash Damsel including one of 3lbs (picture below). The fish were all caught within 5 meters of the bank! Black Damsels were the best fly for Clive with a 9ft leader, floating line and figure of eight retrieve.
