Trout FishingWe extend a warm welcome to all trout anglers. The range of fishing we offer ensures excellent sport for all abilities. Our still water fisheries are among the best in the west and vary in size from around 50 to over 900 acres! Our fisheries are picturesque and atmospheric lakes, including countless secluded bays, weedy shores and tree line margins to explore. We boast rainbows, browns and a large number of blues of the highest quality. Traditional fly fishing is the rule at our stocked fisheries, although other methods can be used at our free wilderness trout waters. Young People and Newcomers We are working hard to encourage young people and newcomers to take up the sport. Under 18 fish for free with a paying adult and part of their bag limit. Throughout the season, we host open days and events where we offer free fly fishing tuition for all. Boat Fishing Boats are available at most of our waters which provide an alternative to bank angling. These must be pre-booked, either by calling 01566 771930 (8.30am - 5.00pm 7 days a week) or online by scrolling to the bottom of your chosen lake page. You will need to sign a disclaimer before you can take a boat out. Once a year you will need to complete a boat induction – please watch the induction video here. Access for All Most of the waters benefit from facilities designed for disabled or wheelchair anglers, either by platforms or Wheelyboats. These boats must be booked at least 48 hours in advance. Clubs A number of the fisheries have associated local clubs. These are a great way to meet fellow anglers, as well as participating in competitions and social events. We run several competitions during the season - more details of each of these are available on our competitions page. Environment Agency Rod Licence Anglers on all our waters must have a valid Environment Agency rod licence which are available from post offices or via the Environment Agency. The only exception may be when attending a bona fide course or a coaching session with a qualified coach – please check beforehand. South West Lakes Trust South West Lakes Trust is the managing charity of SW Lakes Trust Fishing. The charity is a member of The Angling Trust. In 2014, the South West Lakes Trust fisheries hosted the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships; Scotland took gold and England won silver. Reporting an Incident: South West Lakes Trust manages a portfolio of nearly 50 lakes and other natural resources so it is not always possible for our wardens to be on the scene when issues occur. The very remote and rural nature of our estate, the thing that makes them so special, also means that modern mobile communications don’t always cover the areas we would like them to. This makes getting an immediate response to ongoing incidents very challenging. You can only leave home to fish with members of your own household, your support bubble or with one other individual. Adhere to social distancing measures: Hand, Face and Space. Competition fishing or any other organised fishing event is prohibited by law during lockdown. You can travel to go fishing but long journeys should be avoided ‘wherever possible’. Go local wherever possible Boat fishing can continue and the boat fishing rules and regulations during covid-19 remain in place. Please note: Our fishing permit rooms are closed and day permits will only be available online from our website or from our office Monday to Friday 9.00am-4:30pm on 01566 771930. Stocking at Stithians with approx. 450 hard fighting, high quality rainbows Stocking at Kennick Monday with another load of 2lb+ fish PERMITS: With permit rooms being closed you can get your permits here for each lake: Kennick BookingsSiblyback BookingsStithians BookingsBurrator Bookings Kennick Kennick fished well again last week with plenty of Rainbows and a few browns being caught. We are stocking again on Monday 16th November. The best fish was 3lb 4oz caught by Kevin Primmer. Kevin also had another over 3lbs as part of a 4 fish day using diawl bachs. Kevin had another 4 Rainbows on Montanas and cormorant flies during his second visit last week. The boat fishing is still really good with a lot of fish being caught in the central water using Boobies and cats whiskers. Best location for bank angling last week was in Clampitts Bay. Check out the Kennick fishing map here.The Kennick fishing guide is here. Siblyback Despite stocking good numbers of fish into Siblyback since September the fishing has been very tough. I know the boat is going out this week so it will be interesting to see if they find some fish hiding in much deeper water in the middle of the lake. It’s been very noticeable at Kennick in particular that since the summer the Rainbows have stayed in much deeper water and the boat fishing has been much more productive than the bank. Burrator Longstone Point was the best area last week with Rainbows being caught here with the best flies being Damsels. The fish ranged from just over 1lb to the 1lb 8oz bracket. The forecast is remaining mild this week, a really good opportunity to spend some time at Burrator. Don’t forget our 3 hour anytime ticket for just £13 is still available. Stithians Stithians produced a few fish last week and the good news is we are stocking again this week with around 450-500 Rainbows. With the much cooler water and mild weather I’m expecting plenty of fish to be caught in the next few weeks. Graeme Clement and David Pascoe led the way last week at Stithians with a couple of Rainbows each. Graeme fishing his Teeny orange nasty fly size 12 from Golden Lion point and Carmanellis point catching a Rainbow at each location around the 1lb mark. David Pascoe caught the best fish with a Rainbow of around 2lbs on a black spider from Chapel Bay. David also caught one from Pub Bay using an orange blob with the fish being returned to fight another day. Giles Eustice fished into the wind at Goonlaze to catch a Rainbow on an olive and black hopper! Fantastic fishing well done! The fish seem very well spread at Stithians.
