Coarse Fishing

Our coarse fisheries include over 275 acres of water with fisheries ranging in size from 2 to 81 acres. Our established lakes are located in outstandingly beautiful and secluded rural areas across the South West.

At South West Lakes Trust Fishing we offer more than just great angling, our unique fisheries are matched with a recognised reputation for great fish quality.

Enjoy the tranquility that our waters provide with established tree-lined banks, lily pads and weed beds with natural woodlands surrounding the lakes. Our coarse fisheries offer a peaceful setting within picturesque and wildlife-rich surroundings.

Coarse fishing in the South West:

We regularly hold carp and match competitions at Upper Tamar Lake with prize money exceeding £3,500. Season tickets are available online. Day tickets are bookable through Catch. Download the Catch app from App Store or Google Play.

Facilities include onsite cafes, parking, toilets, showers, wheelchair access platforms, on-site permit rooms and easy access paths and swims.

Reporting an Incident:

South West Lakes Trust manages a portfolio of nearly 50 lakes and other natural resources so it is not always possible for our wardens to be on the scene when issues occur. The very remote and rural nature of our estate, the thing that makes them so special, also means that modern mobile communications don’t always cover the areas we would like them to. This makes getting an immediate response to ongoing incidents very challenging.

Please use this form to report any incidents of poaching, illegal fishing or any other form of antisocial behaviour to the management team so that we are able to take appropriate action.

Coarse Fishing End of Year Newsletter

Introduction

I hope this finds you safe and well and I also hope you have found time to do plenty of fishing at our beautiful lakes. It’s been an incredible year and I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting our fisheries during 2020.

We have been very lucky to have as much fishing time as we have, considering a lot of other outdoor activities have been restricted. Looking ahead, I can assure you that we are working hard to improve each and every fishery for your enjoyment in 2021 and beyond. Here are some of the highlights from this year so far.

Upper Tamar Stocking

With the introduction of 23 more fish in November, we have now stocked 83 carp ranging from 18lbs to 36lbs in weight. In 2021 the final fish of this project will be introduced with another 17 carp to reach the 100 total. We have now stocked:

– 3 fish over 30lbs
– 3 fish over 25lbs
– 65 over 20lbs
– 10 fish over 19lbs
– 2 fish over 18lbs
– 64 mirror carp and 19 commons

The fish which we have stocked have been growing extremely well. One common, which was stocked at 23lbs, and one at 26lbs are both now 32lbs within 2 years of being stocked!

Argal Record Broken by Wayne

Massive well done to Wayne Bateman for catching ‘the secret’ from Argal at 40lb 2oz!

Wayne had it on a very big bed of mainline fibre boilies fished snowman rig style along with a 3.5oz Westcountryleads flat pear. Congratulations Wayne on setting a new record, beating the previous best for the same fish by 1oz!

Mainline success for West and Woon

George West and Andy Woon won our only Mainline carp competition this year at Upper Tamar. Unfortunately, with the covid restrictions, we were only able to run the October pairs.

George and Andy caught 7 carp for 84lbs with the largest just under 20lbs to scoop the £2000 first prize. There were 42 carp caught during the competition from all areas of the lake.

Keep an eye on our website for the 2021 dates as we have three pairs and two singles planned in!

Our permit rooms are all closed until further notice, meaning day and season permits are only available online from our website or by calling us on 01566 771930.

Argal Swims Renewed

Staff and bailiffs at Argal have completed some swim replacements using boarding and stone. Track barrows and a digger were used and several tonnes of stone to complete the works. Thank you to everyone involved – fantastic job done.

Squabmoor Update

During 2019 we lost some carp from this stunning fishery. Unfortunately the Environment Agency tests could not pinpoint a single cause of the mortalities but, with the changes we have made, I’m delighted to say the carp stock is now looking really healthy and the fishery is in good shape.

The bailiffs continue to do a fantastic job and we plan to re-stock with carp in the near future.

Lower Tamar Swim Improvements

Our warden Gary Vogel and regular volunteer Carl Watkins have been revamping the swims at Lower Tamar. A lot of the swims have been washed out over time and needed re-building and stoning. The work is nearing completion now and they are looking great.
