Join us at Stithians Lake this summer and try something new at a wild-themed family activity day or on the water.

Get creative with sticks on Tuesday 9 August. Explore the landscape for natural colours, make your own natural paints, make a stick paintbrush and create some artwork on the communal canvas. Turn sticks into charcoal to draw with, make stick dens, whittle a stick and cook bread – you guessed it – on a stick.

Hone your bushcraft skills on Wednesday 10 August, and learn how to whittle a stick and light a fire using a flint and striker. The charity’s engagement rangers will also help you melt pewter and cast it into a necklace or keyring, make cordage and craft your own miniature rafts or necklaces and get creative with clay faces.

Become a nature detective on Thursday 11 August. Go on a voyage of discovery into the wonders of the natural world with bug hunts and bird safaris and plenty of art and craft activities including leaf bashing, flower prints and willow weaving.

Book online for a morning session from 10am – 1pm, or an afternoon session from 1.30pm – 4.30pm. The activities are most suitable for children aged five and over, but all ages are welcome. Participating children must attend with an adult.

Children over five years £3, adults £2. Children under five can attend for free. Pre-booking is essential. All proceeds go towards protecting and enhancing the South West’s reservoirs and lakes.

The events are part of the charity’s Connecting Communities project, which aims to help local people better connect and gain more from their local green and blue spaces.

Project lead Rick Lockwood said: “Part of our vision is to work more closely with those people in the community that find it especially difficult to visit and experience the nature on their doorstep. Through providing facilitated activities we hope to provide the ways and means by which more people can access the mental and physical health benefits that can arise when we are able to take the moments to slow down, connect and appreciate what nature unknowingly provides us.”

The Connecting Communities project is funded by the Government's Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The fund was developed by Defra and its Arm's-Length Bodies. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England, the Environment Agency and Forestry Commission.
