Year of Green Action Day at Roadford

29th May 2019

The Year of Green Action

The Year of Green Action is an action-packed programme of environmental events open to staff and members of the public. The aim is to highlight the role that people and businesses can play in improving our environment. We would like to hold a day for everyone to focus on conservation management at a large operational site.

Where and when?

Roadford Lake, 29th May, 10:00-15:00. Meet at the Roadford Lake car park and bring lunch or eat in the café. Please wear suitable clothes and footwear. All equipment and PPE will be provided on the day.

What is the activity?

We will be removing tree guards at the South West Water operational area of Roadford Lake which is just below the dam. These guards were put on some years ago when the trees were young to stop deer and rabbits chewing the plants. Now the trees are well established and growing, there is no need for the tree guards. As the trees continue to grow, the tree guards can become tight on the trunk which can restrict growth.

Why are we doing it?

Working together as a team to remove these tree guards will have numerous benefits such as:

  • Removing unnecessary stress on trees
  • Increasing feeding opportunities for wildlife
  • Creating the opportunity to re-use plastic tree guards at other sites
  • Reduce waste
  • Maintenance of a healthy woodland habitat

Please do pass this onto your friends and family who may be interested in attending.
