Astronomy Lecture with Professor Roger Davies from Oxford University

Title: Black holes and galaxies: How the Nobel Prize was won

Join us at Wimbleball Lake Activity Centre on Monday 1 November at 7pm for an astronomy lecture run by Exmoor National Park, as part of their Dark Sky Festival.

The 2020 Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded for work on black holes to Sir Roger Penrose, Professor Reinhard Genzel and Professor Andrea Ghez.

Professor Davies will discuss how Genzel and Ghez were able to demonstrate the existence of a black hole, millions of times more massive than the Sun, at the heart of our Milky Way galaxy. He will describe the critical role supermassive black holes play in shaping all massive galaxies.
