There are so many things to do at the lakes – discover the joy of simply wandering through woodlands, spotting birds and bugs and playing amongst nature. You can also take to the water and experience an exhilarating adventure as a family.

Our lakes provide the perfect setting for a great day out in Cornwall, Devon and on Exmoor. Venture along our trails, encountering nature face to face. Refuel at our onsite cafés with delicious snacks, cakes and hot drinks. Enjoy a wide range of fun things to do – try an activity on or off the water for the very first time, shoot an arrow or swing through the trees, discover paddleboarding or explore our lakes by canoe. Extend your stay and enjoy a night under canvas, create a family holiday packed with new experiences creating lifelong memories.

From canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing to archery and high ropes – there’s plenty of outdoor activities to experience the ultimate day out or holiday with the family in Cornwall, Devon and on Exmoor.

Following the latest announcement from the government, we are excited to be welcoming more people back to our lakes.

In line with government and RYA guidance, Roadford, Siblyback, Stithians, Tamar and Wimbleball are now open for equipment hire and daily launch. Tuition is also available at Roadford, Stithians and Wimbleball. 

Members can launch outside of Activity Centre opening times but must use the buddy system.  

Our campsites at Roadford, Siblyback, Stithians, Tamar and Wimbleball are now open. This includes our shared washroom facilities which are being operated under strict cleaning guidance and anti bac’ stations on entrances. Campers are welcome at our sites but will be asked to follow social distancing measures and to follow the hands, spaces and face guidelines. We reserve the right to close these facilities with no prior notice should guidelines not be adhered to.

Cafes

The cafes at Roadford, Tamar, Wimbleball, Stithians, Siblyback and Argal are now open. Click here for further information.

Prior to every watersports trip, it is essential that you check the information on this page to ensure that you are up to date with relevant site information, rules and regulations.

Safeguarding our visitors and team of employees is our priority and therefore we have certain measures in place to limit the spread of coronavirus and maintain the safety of everyone.

Whilst open, we must maintain social distancing and hygiene standards to a level that we feel minimises the risk of spreading coronavirus. If at any point we have concerns that visitor numbers or public behaviour are restricting our ability to do this, we reserve the right to close particular lakes or facilities without prior notice.

If you have a new, persistent cough, temperature or any other reason to suspect you may have coronavirus, please do not visit and help save lives.

The following are our overarching instructions for all visitors, below this you will find further details on our code of conduct for going afloat.

  1. Please respect our team; they are doing their best to keep you safe during your visit
  2. Please follow all instructions given on posters and by members of the team
  3. Social distancing; please maintain appropriate social distance between yourself and others at all times, lakes will be open from sunrise to sunset to help you maintain this
  4. Please wash your hands in line with government guidance, as often as possible. Where no facilities exist please use personal hand sanitiser
  5. All dogs must be kept on leads at all times.Please do not allow dogs to jump up at people, please take your dog waste home
  6. Toilet facilities are now available at the five sites
  7. Pay and Display parking machines will be cleaned as often as possible; we advice that you use personal hand sanitiser after use or consider joining us as a Friend of SW Lakes
  8. We have tied open gates around the lake to remove touch points wherever possible, please leave them as you find them
  9. We do not actively clean site furniture such as benches, please use these only if absolutely necessary
  10. Access to the water is only permitted via our activity centres or an approved club. Swimming is not permitted in any water 
  11. Please respect the wildlife it has had nearly seven weeks of little to no disturbance

 Launch Member Code of Conduct 

This is to be read in conjunction with existing SWLT code of practice within membership handbook.

  • Members must only launch if they are completely comfortable in their ability in the prevailing conditions.
  • Only one boat may use the slipway at a time.
  • Members can only sail double handed craft with members of their own household.
  • Members will be expected to arrive at the Lake ready to sail or change at their car, same after their activity.
  • All SW Lakes buildings will remain closed to members with the exception of a toilet.
  • Safety boats will only respond in an emergency, a rescue scenario makes social distancing very difficult.

Day Launch visitors please also note the following in addition to the above:

  • You must book online in advance via the book now button on our website or by clicking the following links Roadford ,Stithians, Wimbleball, Tamar  or Siblyback –  please note payment is not possible on site.
  • Ensure that you only launch well within your competency – safety cover will be limited and for emergencies only.
  • Have appropriate third party insurance for your craft
  • Have your own Buoyancy Aids
