Kennick  

Rod Average: 3.20

A quieter week than of late at Kennick but still plenty of catches to be had. Hatches were bountiful and a variety of flies produced catches, with anglers favouring floating and intermediate lines.

Mike and Hilary Herring, accompanied by 10-month old Labrador Flossie, caught 8 rainbows between them with several more takes:

‘It was a lovely warm, sunny Spring day with a gentle SE breeze which meant Hil came with me and, for the first time ever, our 10 month old Labrador Flossie.

Much to our surprise Flossie didn't fall in from the boat. Her behaviour in the boat was exemplary. She showed no interest in any of the rainbows which came aboard and slept for most of the day. Except when on shore leave.

We had a good day. Eight rainbows by 2.30, and several more takes.

Damsels were the successful flies. We kept three, all about 2 pounds (Friday's stocking?) and returned five of approx. a pound and a half each.

All the boats were out and several bank anglers

Kennick is almost full again!

A small flock of House Martins arrived and departed. Another Mallard and her nine newly hatched ducklings were seen in Clampetts.’

Siblyback

Rod Average: 3.42

Gusty winds made casting tricky for the most part last week but plenty of fish activity produced a good number of catches. Fish seemed to be nearer the surface so a floating line worked best.

Ron Wilday from Liskeard caught 7 rainbows to 2lb and a 25cm brown: ‘Wind from the south, overcast / sunny spells. Good to see a few other anglers around the lake mid-week and the boat being used. The fish are high up in the water now, so floating line used; Damsel on the point, Cormorant and orange blob on the droppers. Caught on all three flies but mostly to the blob. Mixed retrieve, static / on the drop, slow figure of 8 and slow pulls all caught fish. The brown was on the cormorant. Lost another 3 had a few follows and many takes - great 2 -3 hours fishing on Monday afternoons.’

Wildlife: Ducks, Canada Geese, Swallows, Cormorants, Swifts, Long Tailed Tits.

Burrator

Rod Average: 1.36

Fish found in the top 2-3ft of water last week with anglers favouring floating and intermediate lines and buzzers, boobies and damsels all producing catches. Notable catches include Mike Lunney from Dousland with 8 rainbows.

Stithians

Rod Average: 3.00

Anglers used a wide variety of flies and lines last week to produce a respectable rod average of 3.

Stephen Cook from Redruth caught 3 rainbows to 3lb on a weighted damsel: ‘3lb rainbow was a stunner, overwintered, full finned and 50cm long. Took 15 minutes to land and 5 for it to recuperate and swim off. Best fish for a few seasons! Weather was very windy, caught at 1100, Floating line figure of eight return.’

Other notable catches include Philippa Hornsby-Sayer from Kingsbridge with 6 to 1.5lb on a nymph, Mr Clark from Truro with 4 on a Cormorant and black hopper size 10 and Nigel Burley from Truro with 6 caught on a midge tip line.

Wildlife; Mallards, Canada Geese, Sparrowhawk, Peacock Butterfly, Speckled Wood butterfly, Robin, Cuckoo, Swallows, Egret.

Fernworthy

Rod Average: 4.56

A quiet week in terms of rises and insect activity but this didn’t stop 9 anglers catching 41 fish between them for 6 full bags.

Mr Egoitz from Widecombe in the Moor caught 7 browns to 32cm: ‘Lovely day at Fernworthy, is usually a good fishing day but Sunday was a brilliant catching day as well! Misty start of the day with no visibility and no wind, fog lifted up around mid-morning to a bright and sunny day with a constant SE wind. Fish were feeding on the surface the first 2 hours before going quiet until late morning. Intermediate line, slow retrieve. Spotted 3 adders.’

Charlie Beney from Wincanton caught 5: ‘Moderate W breeze, mostly cloudy with a few showers and quite cold - had been a cold night before. Fished N bank - not much rising and no sign of Hawthorns which was a slight surprise. Fished team of wets on a floating line fairly shallow - no particular pattern to retrieve - had to mix it up to get anything at all. Good to see the swallows back.’

Colliford

Rod Average: 5.71

Notable catches for last week include Dean Boucher from Gunnislake with 15 browns to 14 inches: ‘Pulled wets to start with fishing taking well. Late morning takes slowed.Switched to dries fishing Hoppers in some reasonably choppy water. No fish rising but seemed happy enough to come blind with a Black Hopper on a 12 catching all the fish i had dry. Soldier Palmer, White tailed Zulu and Black Tadpole all caught when fishing wets.’

 Bag, Catch & Release limits:

• Rainbow Trout- Bag Limit is 5 fish. Catch & Release limit is 10 fish per day – we would kindly ask that all anglers purchase a further ticket if they would like to continue fishing.
• Brown Limit– Bag Limit is 4 fish. Catch & Release is unlimited (if you’re lucky enough to catch good numbers of our Brownies then we feel it’s well deserved!)
