What's On Parrot's feather day at Lopwell On Sunday 1 September, 11am - 3pm, we will be pulling parrot’s feather from Lopwell Dam and composting it safely on-site. We welcome all volunteers to come and help! Parrot’s feather is an invasive species that was first recorded in the wild in 1960, having been introduced to Great Britain via the ornamental plant trade. It escaped from garden ponds and lakes in to the wild and fragments can be transported by boats, fishing gear and even birds and other animals. With no natural predators, this plant spreads rapidly, choking waterways, outcompeting native species and disrupting recreational and sporting activities such as angling and kayaking. No experience necessary and full training will be given. Please wear clothing appropriate for the conditions, wellies and bring lunch and drinks. Please email [email protected] for more information and to book a place.
