Wimbleball Celebrates Bronze at this Year’s Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards

We are delighted to announce that Wimbleball Lake has received a Bronze award in the ‘Tourism Experience of the Year’ category at this year’s Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards which took place at the Somerset County Cricket Club on Thursday 9 November.

Wimbleball, along with three other finalists, were shortlisted for the ‘Tourism Experience of the Year’ category which this year was sponsored by VisitBath. The Mystery Visitor praised the facilities at Wimbleball commending the “excellent service” in the activity centre and café.

“A wonderful day out. Such a beautiful setting and lovely peaceful atmosphere. A great choice for all with a good range of activities and much fun was had.”

Wimbleball Lake offers a great day out for everyone no matter what your age, ability or interest.  Whether you want to visit in the day or night, there’s plenty of fun things to do with the whole family. Discover nature paths by foot, bring the bike and explore the off-road cycle trails, visit the children’s play area and finish off the day with a delicious treat from the Duck Café.

Visitors can also create their very own real life adventure by exploring the lake by kayak, boat or board. There’s masses of things to do – try an activity on or off the water for the very first time, shoot an arrow or swing through the trees on the high ropes course. With so much on offer in Exmoor National Park, why not extend your stay at Wimbleball and choose to camp or glamp in one of the spacious belle tents or wooden pods.

At night, look up and see the amazing stars. Exmoor National Park is designated as a dark skies reserve and it was the very first in Europe to become one. Hire a telescope and enjoy the superb stargazing opportunities at Wimbleball.

Phil Timings, Head of Sport and Recreation, said “It’s fantastic to receive this award and recognise the incredible efforts made by the Wimbleball Lake team and South West Lakes as a whole. We continue to listen to and act upon feedback from our visitors, such as the building of new camping facilities starting next week, and hope that many more people will come to visit us in 2018.”

Luke Hoather, Wimbleball Lake Centre Manager, commented, “I would just like to say a massive thank you to all of our summer activity and warden team that have played a huge part in Wimbleball’s success at this year’s Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards.”

Somerset based organiser Nell Barrington said, “These awards showcase the best that Somerset, Bristol and Bath have to offer visitors; from food and drink to attractions, experiences, accommodation and new for this year, guided tours. I hope that as many as possible can go on to win in the South West and then VisitEngland Awards, to raise the profile of this magnificent area.”

Successful businesses from the awards will now be fast tracked into the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2018 and then possibly on to the National Visit England Awards later in 2018. A full list of winners is available on the Somerset Tourism Awards website – www.somersettourismawards.org.uk.
