A Batty Evening at Burrator

On Friday 15 September we held our annual bat evening talk and walk at Burrator Reservoir on Dartmoor.

Joined by over 40 people, the youngest being 2, Neil Reeves, Countryside Manager for South West Lakes Trust, shared some interesting batty facts with the group. The talk was then followed by a bat count of Burrator’s local roost and a short walk where many enjoyed learning how to use bat detectors for the first time.

One of the attendees said “I didn’t realise the UK had so many species of bat and a large number of which are in the South West and that bats can close their ears and live quite happily in a bell tower!”

South West Lakes Trust carry out regular monthly bat surveys at Burrator and if you would like to know more about these surveys, or other South West Lakes Trust events, please contact the Burrator Discovery Centre via email heritage@swlakestrust.org.uk or call 01822 855700.
