Successful Dark Skies Event at Wimbleball Lake with Seb Jay – Author of ‘Exmoor Dark Skies’

Despite the cloudy weather forecast, 20 people joined Seb Jay, author of ‘Exmoor Dark Skies’, for a talk and guided stargazing tour at Wimbleball Lake on 13 December.

The evening started with a presentation by Seb, whose knowledge and enthusiasm had the audience gripped as he took them on a journey from the stars you can see at Wimbleball deep into space and even as far as other galaxies!

Unfortunately, persistent cloud cover meant no stars were visible, however they did catch some fine glimpses of the Super-moon through the telescopes Seb brought with him (available to hire on Exmoor from www.darkskytelescopehire.co.uk). Attendees were shown how to take a picture of the moon on their phones using the telescopes with some impressive results.

Wimbleball Manager, Alex Forster said “It was a great evening. We learnt so much from Seb’s presentation and we will definitely be inviting him back for some more stargazing events in 2017!”

Wimbleball Lake is situated well within the Dark Skies reserve so is an ideal place for stargazing. Please see www.southwestlakes.co.uk for further details.
