Successful Wildlife Day at Stithians

25 children and their families ventured off the beaten track at Stithians Lake on Wednesday (10 August) to discover some of the creatures that make the lake their home.

Pond dipping and bug hunting at South West Lakes Trust’s wildlife day were both a great success, with fantastic close up views of a variety of critters, the highlights for the kids being sticklebacks and moths.

Beth Heasman, South West Lakes Trust Countryside Warden, thanked the volunteers who helped to make the day such a success. “We are always pleased to receive help from volunteers. If you have some spare time and would like to learn a new skill, or have a skill you can pass on to others, we’re keen to hear from you.”

The Trust run a variety of events throughout the year across Devon, Cornwall and West Somerset. Our next conservation event will be taking place at Argal Lake on 20 August.

Drop in to Argal for our Family Day between 10.00am and 4.00pm and take part in a variety of activities including; a round lake trail, kids’ fishing tasters, nature crafts, owl pellet dissecting, quizzes and much more.
