Channel Kayaks’ ‘Kayaking 4 Cancer’ at Wimbleball Raises £12k for Cancer Charities

In an amazing initiative that has involved a huge amount of work over recent months, Channel Kayaks Ltd have raised the phenomenal sum of £12,000 for cancer charities through their first ‘Kayaking 4 Cancer’ event that was kindly hosted by South West Lakes Trust’s Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor. This figure incorporates a fantastic contribution of £1800 from Tim Cosford and his trio of intrepid Thames Paddlers.

The culmination of all the effort involved participants paddling a 45 mile course around the stunning scenery of Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor over the Bank holiday weekend. Supported by teams and individuals from across Britain, many of whom had travelled over 300 miles to take part, the event caught the imagination of kayakers young and old.

Channel Kayaks CEO Byron Baker Brown commented: ‘We are genuinely delighted to be supporting and managing this event. With the obvious success in this inaugural year, it seems destined to become a part of our annual programme. We have a great history of supporting worthy causes, having raised £10,000 for the RNLI at last year’s Game Fair at Harewood House, but this even surpasses that effort. I can only thank and commend all who took part.’

The success underlines not only Channel Kayaks strength in their market, but also the continuing growth of the sport itself. The company have a range of initiatives at the present time , including some special prices on their craft and accessories and these will soon be on show again at the UK Game Fair at Stoneleigh on 22 to 24 July.
