Practical Volunteering Days at Burrator

What a good start to 2015! Since Christmas volunteers have continued to come out to Burrator in all seasons, from snow to glorious sunshine, to get involved in South West Lakes Trust’s practical volunteering days.

Over the last two months many have attended our training days to learn about the traditional woodland management skill of coppicing and then carry it out around the site. This month we welcomed our youngest volunteer who was 8 years old.

We have practical volunteering days once a week and one weekend day a month which involve different seasonal conservation tasks. The weekends are getting increasingly popular with young people from local ‘Duke of Edinburgh’ groups needing to complete their service section, as well as those who work in the week.

One volunteer said, “I spend the week tied to my desk at work so it is really nice to get outside and do something different.”

If you would like to get involved or find out more information please ring Emily Cannon, Burrator Heritage Learning Officer, on 01822 855700 or e-mail:
