Winter rowing camp at Wimbleball Lake - Fri 8 Jan 2010

The team are at the lake for their annual winter training camp, determined to get in as many miles as possible over 10 days of intense rowing in early January, despite the below freezing temperatures, snow storms and ice lining the waters' edge. The training for the 2010 Oxford/ Cambridge rowing races began in September 2009.
The races will be taking place at the end of March, and this training camp is to select the final team of eight plus 1 cox from the 16 participants.
Chris O'Hara, Head Coach of Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club said, "Wimbleball Lake is a terrific venue for a training camp. So many clubs go overseas to train, yet we have one of the best facilities in Europe right on our doorstep. The marked 1000m/ 2000m courses running in opposite directions have been great. There's always flat water to be found on the lake, and the teams' morale is high, despite the Arctic conditions we are experiencing".
