Guinness World Record Attempt at Roadford Lake - Thu 10 Dec 2009

An attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most trees planted in one hour in multiple locations took place between 11am and 12noon on Saturday 5th December throughout the UK. The national event was part of National Tree Week organised by BBC Breathing Places.

South West Lakes Trust took part in this world record attempt by planting 224 native trees at Roadford Lake. Volunteers from Lifton Sea Scout Group, friends, employees and Trustees all gave up their Saturday morning to plant the trees which only took a very impressive 35 minutes!

Despite the gloomy weather forecast, the determined volunteers were not dissuaded and the rain held off for the vital hour and everyone went away with a great feeling of satisfaction. The newly planted trees will not only develop into a beautiful woodland for future generations to enjoy, but will also create a habitat for diverse flora and fauna.

Records along with photos will now be sent to the BBC and it will be announced on the 14th December as to whether the previous record of 653,143 held by the Philippines has been broken.
