SOUTH WEST LAKES TRUST OPENS NEW ANGLING & WATERSPORTS FACILITIES - Tue 23 Jun 2009

Guests were invited to tour the new facilities and enjoyed demonstrations on the water by Bradworthy Community Primary School students in dinghies and the radio controlled model yachts of Bideford Model Yacht Club.

South West Lakes Trust Area Manger Angie Martelli was the driving force behind the new Centre and was delighted with visitors' praise for the new facilities. She said: "Tamar Lakes have around 68,500 visitors each year, and many get involved in watersports and angling activities. The new building provides improved equipment storage, shelter and social facilities for participants, one of the best features being the veranda with its panoramic views across the Upper lake."

The amenity building has also had a major refurbishment, incorporating environmentally-friendly materials and water usage in the showers and lavatories, which support the Trust's on-going ‘green' programme across all sites and Tamar Lakes' Green Tourism Business Silver Award.

Upper Tamar is host to a number of clubs, including Tamar Sailing Club, Bude Gig Club, Pilot Gig Club and Bideford Model Yacht Club; also fishing clubs Ilfracombe Match Group, Okehampton Fishing Club, Bideford & District Anglers Association and North Tawton Anglers Association
