Lakes & Facilities Tamar Lakes Country Lake

Near Bude on the North Cornwall coast, these two lakes offer a variety of activities including watersports, angling, walking, cycling and relaxing.

Upper Tamar
The brand new watersports centre at Upper Tamar offers sailing, windsurfing and kayaking for individuals, families and groups. Visitors can benefit from tuition from our qualified instructors, hire equipment or launch their own craft. The peaceful campsite is an ideal base for exploring North Cornwall and Devon and is perfect for families, groups and couples.

The café overlooking the lake offers a variety of light lunches, cakes and beverages and a visit to the Visitor Centre will tell you about the lake, its ecology and the walks.

The café is open seasonally from 11am-5pm (April 1 to September 30).

The popular round lake walk takes about one hour , and there is also a children's play area and plenty of space for informal games.

Adjacent to the Centre is a campsite which caters for holidaymakers and watersports participants alike.

Coarse anglers will also enjoy this attractive lake, and day permits are available from the fishing kiosk on site.

Lower Tamar
At Lower Tamar you will find a much smaller lake with easy going footpaths. The Lower Lake is predominantly managed as a nature reserve as it is popular with many wildfowl. There is a bird hide open to all and several picnic tables.

Both lakes have their own car parks and linking footpaths creating longer walks. The Bude Aqueduct Walk starts and finishes at Lower Tamar Lake and a trail leaflet is available from the café, or Bude Tourist Information Centre.

Pay & Display Parking 2010: £1 up to 2 hours, £2 for 2-4 hours, £3 all day, season tickets available from the café or Head Office for £25. Parking is free to Friends of the Trust, for further information please visit the Friends of the Trust page.

Public Transport: Stagecoach operate a service on Sunday's from Bude - Barnstaple via Kilkhampton, service number 319 (May to Sept) visit www.stagecoachbus.com

Western Greyhound operate a town service from Bude to Kilkhampton (Monday - Saturday). Service number 520 visit www.westerngreyhound.com

Kilkhampton is the nearset bus stop and links up with the Bude Canal Trails Canal & Coast Walk. Tamar Lakes are approximately 3 miles from Kilkhampton on this trail.
