Argal, near Penryn, Cornwall
map ref: LR204 762328
Nestling in a valley close to Penryn, Argal offers a great opportunity for a peaceful day in the countryside. Surrounded by sloping fields it is overlooked by the picturesque Mabe Church.
The lake is noted for its wildlife and beautiful walks, there is a circular walk of about two miles (stout footwear is recommended) which passes through woods and meadows.
With several picnic and barbecue areas and excellent views across the water, Argal is ideal for a family afternoon out. The rustic children's play area is especially suitable for younger children and there is plenty of space for informal games. An ice-cream van visits during the summer and there are toilets on site suitable for disabled visitors.
Argal is a well-stocked coarse fishery with permits available from a self-service unit in the barn beside the lake.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads and are not allowed in the play area.
The adjacent College Reservoir (Crenva Colgy) is managed as a nature reserve, with habitat improvements planned in the coming years. Volunteers are always welcome to help us with our conservation programmes.
