map ref: LR204 762328
Nestling in a valley close to Penryn, Argal offers a great opportunity for a peaceful day in the countryside. Surrounded by sloping fields it is overlooked by the picturesque Mabe Church.
The lake is noted for its wildlife and beautiful walks, there is a circular walk of about two miles (stout footwear is recommended) which passes through woods and meadows.
A new kiosk, run by a local couple from Penryn, has recently been opened at Argal offering good quality coffee, hot and cold drinks, home-made cakes and breakfasts. There are also several picnic and barbecue areas and excellent views across the water. Argal is ideal for a family afternoon out. The rustic children's play area is especially suitable for younger children and there is plenty of space for informal games. An ice-cream van visits during the summer and there are toilets on site suitable for disabled visitors.
Argal is a well-stocked coarse fishery with permits available from a self-service unit in the barn beside the lake.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads and are not allowed in the play area.
The adjacent College Reservoir (Crenva Colgy) is managed as a nature reserve, with habitat improvements planned in the coming years. Volunteers are always welcome to help us with our conservation programmes.
