Looking for mammals at Tamar Lakes - Sun 23 May 2010
Lower Tamar Lake is managed by SWLT as a nature reserve and is a great place to see a variety of birdlife.
We will be looking for some of the less obvious residents and hoping to add to the rather limited mammal records for this area of North Cornwall. The morning will start with checking small mammal traps, placed the previous evening, hoping to find mice and voles.
Later we will search for signs of other mammals using the lake and the surrounding marsh and woodland - we hope to find evidence of commoner species such as moles and grey squirrels, but also perhaps something a bit more unusual - otter or dormouse maybe?
All the findings will be recorded to gather information for the Cornwall Mammal Atlas.
The day will be led by Dave Groves of the Cornwall Mammal Group and refreshments will be provided.
Remember - its Cornwall, it may be almost summer but - bring wellies and waterproofs!
CMG members £ 2.00 Non members £3.00 Children (accompanied) free
Please book before Thursday 20th May by email: enquiries@cornwallmammalgroup.co.uk or call Dave Groves on 01566 86416 - please provide contact details in case of changes at the last minute.
