Stithians Lake Butterfly Walk - Sun 26 May 2013

A glorious day on 26 May raised hopes of seeing a few different species of butterfly at Stithians Lake. A walk down the west side of the lake organised by Cornwall Butterfly Conservation and South West Lakes Trust, however, only yielded five Green-veined Whites. Two other species got away before they could be positively identified - the warm weather means they are flying fast, and they also had a canny knack of escaping over the thickest bramble patches! - Read more aboutStithians Lake Butterfly Walk - Sun 26 May 2013 >

A Mid-May event day in Cornwall - surely the sun was shining?....

Not quite. In torrential rain and howling wind, Siblyback Lake near Liskeard hosted the launch of the "Alien Invader" Project with Caradon Hill Area Heritage Project. The planned practical "hands-on" experience of removing invasive weeds was abandoned due to the weather, but a good turn out of Environmental organisations such as South West Lakes Trust, Cornwall Council, The Environment Agency, and Westcountry Rivers Trust were accompanied by local landowners and members of the public to find out more about the project aimed at raising awareness on the invasive weed, Himalayan Balsam. - Read more aboutAlien Invaders at Siblyback Lake - Tue 14 May 2013 >
